If you like doing all those things, it means that you are familiar with news item text, but what is news item text? Let’s see the following explanation.

Definition of News Item

News item text is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or important.

It means if there is an important event that should be known by many people, then this event deserves news. Well, the news text is called the news item text. However, if there are events that people do not deserve, then they are not definitely worth to be news.

Generic Structure of News Item

1.     Headline : A headline is the title of a newspaper story, printed in lager letters at the top of the story, especially on the front page.

2.     Main Events/Newsworthy event(s) : It recounts the event in summary form.

3.     Elaboration/Background event(s) : They elaborate what happened, to whom, in what circumstance.

4.     Resource of Information (Source) : It contains comments by participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the event.

Examples of news identification

1.     Headline : Highly Anticipated Coldplay concert Sparks Ticket War, Frauds, and Homophobic Debate in Indonesia.

2.     Newsworthy event :  The rise of scams and Homophobic debates caused by the high interest in watching Coldplay Concert.

3.     Background event :

a.      What : What problems occur when a Coldplay concert will be held in Indonesia? There was a scam of dozens of people who bought coldplay tickets via twitter.

b.     Where : Where the concert will be held? The concert will be held at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).

c.      When : When did the incident occur? On May 17, 2023.

d.     Who : Who rejected Coldplay’s concert in Indonesia? Indonesian conservative group, PA 212 (Persaudaraan Alumni 212), Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas.

e.      Why : Why Coldplay concert was rejected in Indonesia? Because according to MUI Deputy Chairman Anwar Abbas, the Coldplay concert will damage morality in Indonesia.

f.      How : How are efforts made to ease the effort? Sandiaga Uno opens communication and suggestions from the scholars and ensures that this concert is still within the legal corridors in Indonesia.
