Procedure Text

Procedure text is a type of text that contains steps or instructions on an action or how to do something. The purpose of a procedure text is to provide clear and detailed guidance to the reader so that they can follow the steps correctly. The following is an example of a text procedure along with an explanation of the steps:

Characteristics of Procedure Text

1. Has step points

The most important feature of procedure texts is the presence of guidelines and steps containing points that must be followed or done.

2. Uses command verbs

The next characteristic is the use of sentences in procedure texts generally using straightforward command sentences. This is because the procedure text contains instructions to do something.

3. Uses active verbs

Procedure texts also usually use a lot of active verbs that show an action such as making, frying, cutting, pressing, installing and so on.

4. Using conjunctions (connecting words)

Procedure texts also commonly use conjunctions to explain the order of doing things. Examples include words like "then", "next", "then".

5. Uses adverbs

Other characteristics of procedure texts also use a lot of adverbs to explain things in more detail. These adverbs can include time, place, tools, or materials used.

6. Systematic

Systematic means sequential. In a procedure text, each point and step is made sequentially so that it is easy to follow.

Structure and How to Make Procedure Text

1. Title

The title is the name of the activity or activity to be carried out. Examples include "How to make fried rice", "Steps to Mitigate Flood Disaster Risk", or Tutorial on Making a Simple Fish Pond."

2. Objective

After the title section, a general introduction section is usually created that contains the objective or marker of what will be made or done. The objective should clearly state what the end result of the procedure guide will be.

3. Materials (Tools & Materials)

This material section is optional. This means that it can be present or absent depending on the context of the procedure text in question.

For example, in cooking or baking guides, the material section usually contains the tools and materials to be used. But in things like how to run a Microsoft Powerpoint application, this section is usually absent.

4. Steps

Steps are the most important part of the procedure text. This part is in the form of stages, chronological order or guidelines that are arranged sequentially.

The steps section is usually made in the form of bullet points or numbering. In addition, it can also use conjunctions such as next, then or next.

5. Closing/Conclusion

This closing section is also optional. This section is usually used to summarize the final goal of the procedure steps above.

In this closing section, words are often added that motivate people to follow the guide. Examples of words such as "Well, it's pretty easy to make isn't it?", "Good luck!" or "This delicious cake is ready to be enjoyed!"
